SETE Energy Saudia has completed the installation of the SSI fine bubble aeration system at the Jubail WWTP in Saudi Arabia. Pictured below are the AFD350 fEPDM diffusers with PP piping system and SS hardware. SSI worked with SETE to select the proper materials for the job through our significant experience working in the Saudi market, having installed hundreds of thousands of diffusers in the Makkah/Jeddah region. The fluorinated membranes is designed to extend the lifetime of the diffuser and to reduce the frequency of cleaning.
Below is a photo of the installation in one of the tanks. SSI’s Service Manager will be on site shortly from the US to commission the system.

SSI continues to follow Redmon Engineering’s independent study of SSI AFD350 PTFE disc diffuser membranes installed at the Fox Metro WWTP in Elgin, Illinois (Chicago metro area). This study was funded by the Fox Metro Water Reclamation District and results have been shared with SSI.
After 2 years and 5 years of performance, the data have shown consistency in both SOTE and “as is” and “cleaned” headloss of the tested samples with “new” diffusers from the same batches.
Below is a photo of the 5 year old sample which tested out like “new”.
It is an outstanding result for PTFE, considering that according to many published studies, plain EPDM membranes lose 20% or more of their efficiency over a 5 year period.

Thanks to the City of Thousand Oaks, California for the opportunity to retrofit their existing aeration system having EPDM membranes of another make with SSI PTFE disc diffuser membranes. This is a large project that is ongoing, however we can share with you some photos of some of the basins that have been completed to date. The Operator is very satisfied with the new membranes and is expecting to see a return on investment in the form of a longer membrane life with less change in physical properties of the membrane over time.

Thank you to Shupe and Associates and the City of North Little Rock for their recent order to replace existing ceramic diffuser elements with SSI PTFE retrofit membranes. These are SSI PTFE coated EPDM diffuser membranes, 9″ diameter, which are the same as are used in SSI AFD270-P diffusers. The site’s existing diffuser bodies and piping system were made by others.
Below are some photos of the installation.
